Talvolta per capire noi stessi e quello che vogliamo è davvero necessario abbracciare il proprio Super Ego e andare dritti contro noi stessi: “oh baby what you gonna do/I tell you the truth is looking straight at you”, come ricordavano i Bad Brains nella loro “I against I”.

EN / Our mind could be a wonderful world, an eternal nightmare, a dreadful boredom. Our mind might be also all these things at the same time. No matter what is inside: it is crucial to focus on what prevails on other things and why. It is simple to say but, mostly, impossible to do except in some rare moment during our existence. Between the end of XIX century and the beginning of the XX century, Sigmund Freud described our mind as a place where there is an unavoidable relationships between three elements: our wild and uncontrollable instincts which are represented by Es. The Super-Ego which embodies our personal code of behavior and it tells us when it is not the case to break the law or when it is important to stop. Between Es and the Super-Ego there is a joining link named “I”. Freud lesson is essential but it is not enough in order to understand ourselves: what we need is something more that only ourselves could know and the psychoanalyst Austrian cannot tell: he is just watching us from a distance sitting on a armchair and enjoying his cigar. Sometimes what we need is already before our eyes but we don’t want to look at it, we really know where to go but we keep procrastinating without any reason. Sometimes it is necessary to embrace our Super Ego and to go against ourselves in order to really understand who we are and what we want: “oh baby what you gonna do/I tell you the truth is looking straight at you”, as Bad Brains used to scream in their song “I against I”.
